Amstel Koffie started with a simple problem: finding coffee that truly felt balanced.
During the COVID lockdowns in South Africa, even specialty coffee shops were unable to sell roasted beans. What began as a way to keep drinking good coffee quickly turned into a passion for roasting it myself. Years later, after moving to the Netherlands, that passion only grew stronger as I searched for coffee that was fresh, sweet, balanced, and genuinely enjoyable to drink.
At Amstel Koffie, I believe great coffee should never be extreme. Too dark, and the bitterness overshadows the character of the bean. Too light, and acidity takes over. My approach is to roast for balance — highlighting sweetness, body, and clarity while keeping every cup approachable and easy to enjoy.
I source high-quality specialty arabica coffees from producers who care deeply about their craft and are paid fairly for it. Every coffee is carefully selected, roasted by hand in small batches, and mostly roasted to order to ensure maximum freshness when it reaches your door.
From sourcing and roasting to packaging and shipping, every step is still done personally from my home roastery in Amstelveen.
